Feridhoo

Near the island there are some sand banks and fabulous uninhabited islands.

It's a good idea wander around local grocery shops, cafes and souvenir shop in the island for a flavor of the ‘real’ Maldives. A walk to explore the whole island will take no more than 40 minutes.Locally-made handicrafts and artifacts make for magnificent souvenirs of your authentic island experience, as well as playing part in supporting the local economy and helping to keep local skills alive.

There is a long and beautiful bikini beach on the island with fabulous view and lush jungles in the background, with a lot of sun bed and huts (shade is guaranteed). The 600 meters of unspoilt white beach is maintained by the local community and cleaned every day. You can watch both the sunset and sunrise on the beach. The small sandbar towards the island's west tip is a lovely place to spend a day snorkeling and sunbathing.

According to local laws, alcohol is prohibited and women's clothing should cover shoulders and legs in areas not dedicated to tourism. In the tourist beach is allowed the bikini.

Feridhoo island is a native land of popular maldivian dance Bodu Beru which is performed by males at the evening after the working day to the strains of drums. Locals call it "vibration of the island".

In centuries past, two male African slaves who had been bought by the kings on their Hajj trips to Mecca were formally released from slavery and were settled in this island. One of them was called Sangoru. He had been working for years at the palace in Malé before the ailing king released him in order to gain merit in the afterlife.The freeing of slaves before the death of the owner was traditionally a common practice among the very high nobility in the Maldives. Now there are many families on Feridhoo and in neighboring Maalhos who can trace their descendency to those two African ancestors.
