Mahibadhoo

Mahibadhoo - Mahi-Badhoo is the capital island of Alif Dhaal Atoll.

People of Mahibadhoo are friendly and courteous. The island boasts beautiful beaches and lagoon. Men engaged in sports and fishing is one of the main occupations while women look after the family. 

There are seating arrangements in various zones in the island just to relax and to free your mind or enjoy swimming in crystal clear lagoon or just relax suntanning on the beach. There is a beautiful small lagoon bordered by a nice house reef to snorkel around. And on the main street of the island, there are local shops, restaurants and cafes. If you’re lucky, you might even catch an exciting game in play at the football field, a sport the locals love! Many leading Maldives National team players are from Mahibadhoo 

Explore the inner island walking around and learn their culture by talking to friendly people or join an evening sports activity with friendly local people.

Mahibadhoo has a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal clear lagoon. The water around the island is absolutely pristine with a house reef protecting the perimeter and housing tons of wildlife. 

The island is for those who want to visit the Maldives local islands off the beaten path but don’t want to go too far from Male. 

As the sun begins to set, “flying foxes,” giant bats endemic to the region, come out to feed. 
Around the same time, the fishermen of the island are done for the day and throw overboard any left over fish. This attracts stingrays who show up like clockwork to chow down every evening.

Octopus is a local delicacy in this island in particular octo-hunters are revered for their skill to this day. The local talented people are able to catch octopus without any tool, which is pretty impressive if you’ve ever seen how fast they are. 

Rent a canoe or you can rent and paddle around the shores of Mahibadhoo. 
You can easily see fish and coral right beneath you. The beautiful reefs around are amazing with tons of fish, rays, and even sharks paying a visit. 

Other things you will find enjoyable are fishing from the shore, swimming, or just walking around the island. 

Mahibadhoo is currently making a private bikini beach area for tourists, though you will find lots of private white sandy beach areas for swimming but women must wear T.Shirts cover up, unless can be uncomfortable from a non-Muslim perspective. 

Important places in Mahibadhoo include the Secretariat of A DH. Atoll Council, Atoll house, Atoll Hospital, Atoll Education Centre, Police Station, Mahibadhoo Social Centre, Bank of Maldives Mahibadhoo Branch, Traditional Mosque and football ground.

Mahibadhoo has a bank (with ATM) in the island if you need it as well as places where you can get sim cards for your phone.
